“ Someone got my hopes up about Roosevelt Tamale Parlor still being open--or having been reopened, as I knew for certain that it has closed--but when I walked by and was slightly excited to see the sign lit up, I was then crushed by the fact that the new owner of the taqueria that replaced RTP just messed with the sign a little bit. Boo. But I have nothing but yeas for my two experiences here, on two separate TotMW visits, spaced a couple of years apart. Who knew that my last visit would be not long before it closed for good? The tamales were delicious. I've always liked tamales, but since becoming a vegetarian, my tamale options have been limited--and frankly underwhelming, most of the time. But there were at least two (and possibly as many as four) non-meat options for me to try, and I tried all of them. Roosevelt Tamale Parlor really knew how to make tamales, which makes me even sadder about its death and even sadder still about someone having gotten my hopes up. I liked it so much that I actually enjoyed eating in the parklet with the chaos of 24th Street swirling around me, and I told myself that if they still had a parklet when I returned that I would choose it over inside, which was pretty dark (but romantic) the first time I came. ”

“ Wow, I had not been back here in over a decade, and my memory of a middling tamale must have faded since my original review stated as much. In the interim, I saw this place spotlighted recently on "Check, Please! Bay Area" and listened to the raves provided by the three guests. So as I was strolling on 24th in the Mission recently, I saw they had outdoor seating set up and weren't very busy. Dare I try them in the hope that I caught them on an off day previously? Well, as FDR said, "There's nothing to fear but fear itself," so I took his advice even though he's the wrong Roosevelt. I'm pretty sure that's Teddy in the logo (photo: https://bit.ly/3ErMCfW). Bully for him! I decided to give them another try and am very glad I did. The restaurant had gone through an ownership change, and you could tell they decided to go back to basics with their traditional Mexican dishes and offer fresh California flavors with their ingredients. I decided on the $16 Tamale and Enchilada with Rice and Beans. For the tamale, I chose the Chiva where the corn masa was filled with caramelized butternut squash, yam, purple potato, and goat cheese. It was topped with a tomatillo sauce, pepitas, and queso fresco. That was a delicious, substantive veggie option. The traditional enchilada was made with Grilled Chicken which was immersed in their house red sauce and topped with melted Jack cheese. Oh wait, that's the wrong Roosevelt again. “ Hits the spot every single time. Most flavorful Mexican restaurant in town. Chile rellenos that pop. Tamales that tang. Guacamole that makes your taste buds hop. Their kitchen is #1 in speed and quality. In the front of the house Aaron provides excellent service. So good! A+ ”

“ I'm gonna go broke eating here! I ordered from the apparently famous Roosevelt tamale parlor in The Mission and I couldn't be happier! It said they had world renowned tamales so I got two, one chicken, one elote, both with the house red sauce and OMGGGGG !!!!! Best tamale I've ever had hands down. The elote tamale was like eating a Mexican cornbread, so sweet and delicious but had a really great red sauce on top that just pushed it over the edge of deliciousness! (I added sour cream to both and I also recommended). I then had a Carnitas chimichanga which was delicious but not the best ever. But it was good. But then, then.... the WHOOPIE PIES! MY FUCK! Mascarpone marshmallow filling with delicious dark chocolate rounds. So GD moist and fantastic. So glad I accidentally ordered 4 instead of 2. prob gonna blow my paycheck there again next week but order all 4 of the tamales and 80 whoopie pies. ”
“ Love it here! We came just before they closed their first shift. The owner personally greeted us and served us our food. We ordered Tamales, pozole, plantain empanada, tres leche and margarita. Everything is on point. The pozole was good for two or three people we were so stuffed we ended up taking the tamales and tres Leche to go! We'll definitely go back. “ We were in SF and enjoyed a great morning at the Legion of Honor and been wanting to check our Roosevelt's. Stopped by for lunch with my wife and son. After seeing this place on Check please Bay Area and for our love of tamales, we had to check this place out. When we stoppedby, around 1 pm, on a Saturday, it was not overly busy. We got a seat near the door. I was expecting it to be busier but was thankful we were able to get a seat quickly. Now, to the food. The food, in general, was good. The owner seemed a bit distracted, not overly engaged in conversation, which is fine. My wife got the chicken and pork tamales. I got the pork and sweet corn tamales plate. Both my wife and I liked our meals but both felt the pork tamale was lacking pork, in general. Too much tamale, to little pork. The rice and beans were great and an ice cold Stone IPA washed it down. Would come back if parking and the location is not too busy. ”
